About the project

The aim of this project is to start a dialogue about the past and the present, the classical and the contemporary. The idea originated from the rediscovery of a long-forgotten art collection, which would be considered valueless to the modern art lover. However, instead of accepting this fate, and recognizing the creative potential trapped inside these 27 pieces, we decided to set them free. Each piece was handed out to a contemporary artist to be repurposed, for which only one guiding word was given — Samsara: the wheel of life. This gesture was driven by a refusal towards linearity, and ultimately, imminent doom — to realign these fading artworks into the circle of existence and birth.

The main concept is diversity, where we are able to see examples of rebirth ranging from student to master, sculptor to painter; from simple editing to complete reinvention. The results will be presented at Nagyházi Gallery and Auction House between the 25th of February to the 6th of March, and to be acquired at the same location on the 8th of March.
